The most common hospital-acquired infections

I’ve been looking into the frequency of hospital-acquired infections lately and was surprised to learn that urinary tract infections are among the most common. What benchmarks have you found for tracking these infections in your practice? I’m curious how different hospitals measure and report on this.

Urinary tract infections are definitely a hot topic. At my hospital, we use a combination of the CDC’s NHSN metrics and our own internal reports to track incidence. It’s crucial to monitor trends, but I’ve noticed that many places lack real-time data, which could help drive changes faster.

It’s interesting how different metrics can skew perceptions of infection rates. One approach I’ve found helpful is correlating UTI cases with catheter usage to pinpoint problem areas. Have you tracked catheter utilization rates as well, @hchan88?
