Tried to scan a vaso med with the handheld at 0515 and it played coy for a full minute while the IV pump chimed like a slot machine. I’m muttering “five rights” like a spell — anyone else?
At 0515 I cup the barcode to kill glare; if stubborn, scan side sticker — ‘five rights’ chant optional.
Ever try flipping the handheld flashlight off and backing up about 10 inches so you can scan at a slight angle, @aholland? That plus a quick alcohol wipe on the scanner window usually ends the 0515 tango faster than coaxing a cat into a carrier.
But quick fix that saves me at 0515: slip a 2x2 or a white label backing behind the bag’s barcode to add contrast and flatten the crinkles so it scans on the first pass. If it still balks, pop the handheld in the cradle for 10 seconds to re-pair and kill the lag. @aholland, do you have those clear label sleeves on your unit, or am I the only one whispering ‘five rights’ into the gauze?
