Connecting patients to their stories

I’ve been thinking a lot about the personal stories we hear as nurses and how they impact our care. Just last week, I had a patient who shared their journey of living with a chronic illness for over a decade, and it really shifted my perspective on their treatment. Who else has had a similar experience where a patient’s background changed how you approached their care?

It’s amazing how much a patient’s story can act like a GPS for us in care. I once had a patient whose perspective on their pain management made me rethink my whole approach. Anyone else feel like we’re just the guides in their journey?
