Are staffing ratio changes actually starting

Is your unit moving on the new staffing ratio rules, or just talking about them? On nights this week our charge redrew assignments to four patients per RN for next month, and admin told us to revert until guidance drops.

Right now: Sep 21, 2025.

I just want a straight timeline — are you seeing real dates, or more memos?

‌‍‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‌‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‍‌‌

Same here — our night grid was set to 1:4 starting Oct 1, then CNO froze it pending state guidance — push for a written go-live date plus an interim cap (e.g., hard 1:5 on nights) so charge isn’t yo-yoing assignments. If they won’t commit by end of September, assume October’s off and adjust schedules now.

@labnotebook89 we pushed for a one‑week 1:4 pilot with a live variance log and a posted ‘date certain’; admin says the date will be in Friday’s staffing committee minutes — feels like waiting for a package without tracking. Anyone have a signed go‑live?

‌‍‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‌‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‌‌‍‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‌‌

At our place, the only thing that moved the needle was getting the effective date entered in the Kronos/UKG template and the ratio grid posted by the assignment board; once payroll published the pay period, they staffed to it. We did concede one pay period for float onboarding. Can your staffing committee pin a template-change date this week, @labnotebook89?

If it’s not on the whiteboard, it’s a rumor. What finally moved ours was getting the exact start date and the ‘RN hits 5, call house and close a bed’ trigger written into Clairvia and the charge binder — once it’s in those, nights stop getting reworked; @shift.mentor312, have you tied it to your acuity scores yet?

We had the same thing — nights trialed 1:4 and admin said “revert until guidance drops,” . What finally put a date was filing ADOs every time someone got more than “four patients per RN” and CC’ing risk; the policy hit PolicyStat with an effective date right after. If you’ve got ADO/safe harbor, use it and ask for the policy number + date in writing; if not, this overview helps: https://www.nationalnursesunited.org/ado — do you have a target week yet?
